2015 CCAA BREEDER’S CUP INVITATIONAL

The list below details each Cane Corso who has qualified to be invited to the 2015 CCAA Breeder’s Cup Invitational, which will be held on Saturday, May 23rd, 2015.  The 2015 CCAA Breeder’s Cup Invitational will be part of the National Specialty weekend (https://www.facebook.com/CCAAOfficial/posts/812916692113160) being held in conjunction with the Blue Ridge Classic of the Carolinas Cluster (http://www.blueridgeclassicdogshows.org/) at the WNC Agricultural Center in Fletcher, NC, just outside of Asheville, NC.  Formal invitations have been sent out with detailed entry information.

The CCAA Breeder’s Cup Invitational is an event judged by a panel of three judges.  The highest combined score is the winner.  The format of this event gives each dog time to show off individually and be viewed by the judges and the fancy in an intimate setting.  The identity of the judges is kept confidential until the evening of the event, leveling the playing field for all participants.  The suspense of showing to unknown judges raises the stakes making this is an “ALL IN” showdown for the true players.  This is the highest level of conformation competition for the Cane Corso breed in the USA and the invitees are commended on their hard work and success in qualifying.  Again for 2015 we will feature a People’s Choice award, which is an exciting opportunity for spectators to vote for his or her favorite exhibitor.  For participants and spectators alike, this is the best showcase for the top dogs in our breed.  Are you ready?  Throw on your best western-themed outfit and join us for an amazing night of camaraderie, beautiful examples of the Cane Corso breed and some good ole country fun!

AKC Registration Process

As you are likely aware, the AKC studbook will, in a short while, no longer be accepting UKC and ICCF registrations. If you are interested in AKC registration we urge you to register your dogs with AKC before July, 2015.

The Cane Corso Association would like to help anyone (both members and non-members) interested in getting their dogs registered. Normal registration is $35. If 300 or more dogs register with the help of CCAA there will be discount available for each individual registration.

The process is not complex and can be completed in a few minutes.

If your dog is already UKC or ICCF registered all you have to do is:

  • Fill out the Foundation Stock Services Application
    • http://www.canecorso.org/images/DownloadFiles/AKC_Reg_App.pdf
    • Provide a photocopy of a three-generation pedigree from either above registry or an export pedigree from an approved foreign registry.
    • Provide two 3” x 5” close-up color photographs of the dog in a standing position: one front view; one side view. Please print the dog’s name and registration number on the back of each photograph.
    • Please email the above documents to JoAnne Campbell at BlueRidgeCorsos@aol.com

Some of the benefits of AKC registration:

• AKC is the largest, most widely accepted, and comprehensive registry in the US.

• AKC has the best reputation of accuracy.

• AKC offers a wide array of events and titles that are both accepted nationally and internationally:

• Conformation Shows

• Obedience

• Agility

• Rally

• CGC Program

• Tracking, etc…

• AKC can issue FCI accepted export pedigrees for foreign countries.

• AKC is a not-for-profit organization and annually allocates close to 30million dollars to the following:

• Kennel Inspections

• AKC Canine Health Foundation

• Canine Search-and-Rescue

• Public Education

• Government Relations

• DNA Profiling

• AKC Museum of the Dog

The Westminster Kennel Club (WKC) is an exciting and prestigious event for any dog show exhibitor and enthusiast.  According to the Westminster Kennel Club’s website, entries are limited annually and the opportunity to show your dog is based on award requirements and selection.  This is due to space considerations at Madison Square Garden.  Unlike regular dog shows, not every dog can enter and show and the number of entries in each breed ring is not limitless.  As much as we would love to see 30, 40, even 50, Corsi in the ring, the WKC limits the number of Cane Corso entries annually and vacant spots often fill quickly on the first day that entries are accepted.

Entry breakdowns reported by the Canine Chronicle (http://caninechronicle.com/breaking-news/2015-westminster-kennel-club-entry-breakdowns-released/) showed counts as low as 1 per breed and as high as 58 per breed.  The entry limit per breed is set by the WKC and the average entry per breed was 14.  The Cane Corso had an entry count in 2015 of 20.

The 2015 Westminster Kennel Club premium list stated the following:

“Breed Entry Limit: Entries are limited to 2800 dogs/bitches that meet the award requirements (Invited Top Five Champions in each breed/variety, Invited BOB winners of their Licensed or Member National Breed Club Specialties, Non-Invited dogs/bitches eligible for BOB/V that attained their Championship status prior to the submission of the entry, Non-Invited dogs/bitches eligible for Bred By Exhibitor, American Bred and Open classes that have won at least one 3-, 4- or 5-point major prior to the submission of the entry) within the time frames noted…”

The CCAA congratulates the Cane Corsi who were invited to the 2015 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and the remaining limited entries who were fortunate enough to meet the requirements and be selected to fill the vacant spots.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE CCAA?

What is the Purpose of the CCAA?

  • What is the CCAA? The Cane Corso Association of America (CCAA) is a national nonprofit organization, incorporated under the laws of the State of Florida. The Club encompasses several hundred members, representing most of the 50 states as well as several other countries. The CCAA is the parent club for the American Kennel Club (AKC) and therefore is the only Cane Corso breed club which is recognized and sanctioned by the AKC. The CCAA is dedicated to preserving the conformation, working ability, soundness and intelligence of the Cane Corso in its purest form. The Club strives to promote the Corso in a positive way and educate the public on the Cane Corso. The CCAA is the largest, most progressive Cane Corso Club in North America.

  • What does the CCAA do for the Cane Corso? As the AKC parent breed club, the CCAA is at the forefront of the Cane Corso breed. The CCAA promotes the breed in a positive light, showcasing all of the wonderful attributes of the breed, while providing education to the public about the breed. The CCAA helps to guide breeders, novice and veteran alike, in the preservation of the breed. The CCAA, with the use of member volunteers, attends public events such as Meet the Breeds. The Club provides information to help combat BSL (breed specific legislation) and donates funds to 501(c) Cane Corso rescues. The club and its members showcase the amazing versatility of the Cane Corso breed from loving, loyal family companion, to agility competitors, to dock divers, to service/therapy dogs, to protection trained dogs; the CCAA displays the flexibility of the breed for the world to see.

  • Why do I want to become a CCAA member?Membership in the CCAA affords many benefits, both tangible and intangible.

Every member is encouraged to get involved in Corso activities and CCAA functions.  We welcome all newcomers to read through our website, get to know our breed and visit us on our Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/CCAAOfficial). There are opportunities to be as involved as you desire, ranging from attending a Regional or National specialty, to short term (event) participation or joining a committee.
